Hairline hair transplant

Hairline Hair Transplant Nottingham

At the Nottingham hair transplant clinic, we can cater to many different types of hair transplants. The hairline hair transplant is one of the most popular surgeries we offer. On this page, you will find everything you need to know about the hairline hair transplant: the procedure, aftercare, cost, and its suitability for men and women.

Overview

Hairline hair transplant surgery is a popular procedure for patients in the early stages of androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness). This hair transplant procedure helps tackle the hairline area at the front of the head and often is used to treat temple recession or people with naturally high hairlines. Both men and women are suitable for this type of hair transplant surgery.

What is the Hairline Hair Transplant?

The hairline hair transplant is one of the most popular hair transplant options that patients choose to have with us. Three types of surgical methods can be used to fix a hairline area: FUE hair transplant, FUT hair transplant, and DHI hair transplant. More information on each of these hair loss treatments is provided below.

This type of hair transplant aims to treat patients who have a naturally high hairline or are suffering from a condition called male pattern hair loss (androgenic alopecia). The surgery looks to take hair follicles from the back and sides of the head and transplant them into the hairline and temple area.

A hairline hair transplant aims to not only fill in the temple area of a receding hairline but also shape this out gradually for natural-looking results. Your transplanted hair should blend seamlessly into your existing hairline, making it impossible for other people to tell whether you have had surgery or not.

In some cases, a hairline hair transplant also refers to cases where the hairline area is lowered, shortening the distance between the hairline and the eyebrows. This does tend to be more common in female patients.

Who Can Have a Hairline Hair Transplant at the Nottingham Hair Transplant Clinic?

The hairline hair transplant (Nottingham) is available for men, women, and transgender patients. At the Harley Street Hair Transplant Clinic in Nottingham, your race, or ethnicity does not rule you out of a surgery either.

In male cases, hairline hair transplant surgery is an option usually taken by patients who find themselves on stage 2 or 3 of the Hamilton-Norwood Scale. Moreover, if a patient is suffering from extensive baldness across the scalp (Norwood 6 or 7) and requires a two-stage procedure, the hairline is usually the area tackled first.

Many of the female patients who come to our Nottingham hair transplant clinic want this type of surgery usually due to them having a naturally high hairline from birth. This is not to be confused with female pattern baldness, which affects the mid-parting area in women, as opposed to the hairline and temple area (initially) in men.

The hairline hair transplant is also a popular choice for many MTF transgender patients. If a patient has suffered from symptoms of male pattern hair loss before they have transitioned, then the hair in this hairline area will not regrow. As such, transgender patients do come to us looking to feminise their hairline area and treat any hair thinning.

What Surgery Methods Does the Nottingham Hair Transplant Clinic Offer?

Believe it or not, there are several ways in which you can go on your hair restoration journey. Over the last couple of decades, several surgical techniques have been developed and used. Here are the most common three surgical options:

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

The FUE hair transplant is the most popular surgical method offered today. This method looks to take donor hairs individually and implant them, one by one, into your hairline area. At the Nottingham hair transplant clinic, this procedure is performed by a GMC-registered doctor in a CQC-registered clinic.

Direct Hair Implantation (DHI)

The DHI method is the newest form of hair transplant method available today. Similar to FUE, DHI also looks to take hair follicles one by one and implant them into your recipient area.

The main difference between FUE and DHI is the implantation method. With DHI, a Choi pen is used to make the incision and then “drop in” the follicle at the same time in comparison to FUE where an incision blade is used to make the initial incisions and then forceps are used to implant the grafts.

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)

Sometimes called the “strip method”, FUT is the oldest form of hair transplant and is only now used as an option for female and transgender patients who may prefer to keep their hair long post-surgery and wish to not shave the hair on their head.

This method looks to take a strip of skin with hair from the back of the head and use the grafts from the strip of skin for transplantation. This method does leave a linear scar on the back of the scalp.

How Does an FUE Hairline Hair Transplant Procedure Work?

During a hairline hair transplant, the method used in almost all cases is called Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). FUE hair transplants look to extract donor hairs individually before they are re-implanted into the receding hairline.

There are two key aims of a hairline hair transplant. The first is to delicately reshape (and in some cases lower) the hairline, whilst also blending it seamlessly into the existing hairline. The second is to provide density in the temple/receding area, leaving the hairline looking visibly thicker and fuller.

After a hair transplant, patients are usually recommended a medical treatment called finasteride. This helps to prevent further hair loss after the surgery and ensures the hairline remains thick and full in the years to come.

FUE Hair Transplant: The Day of Your Procedure

Initial Consultation and Anaesthetic

On the day of your hair transplant at the Nottingham hair transplant clinic, you will begin the day by meeting your hair transplant surgeon and technical team. After an initial consultation go over the final hairline design and and fill in your consent forms.

From here, you will have the back of your head shaved and will then be given a local anaesthetic. The benefit of using a local anaesthetic is that you will remain conscious for the procedure, but will not be able to feel any pain in the scalp area.

Extraction Phase

The “extraction phase” refers to the removal of the hair follicles from your donor area. Extraction is taken as evenly as possible from the back and sides of your head to avoid any sign of noticeable over-harvesting of the donor area.

With most hairline surgeries, anywhere between 1200 to 2500 hair grafts are usually used during a hair transplant. This is, of course, dependent upon the size of the area we need to work on. A full count of the number of grafts used will be provided to you at the end of the surgery.

The extraction phase usually takes between 2-3 hours and will be where your transplantable hair follicles are extracted and prepped for re-implantation. The extraction is performed by our surgeon and usually one technician. Another technician will usually be on hand to separate your grafts into “singles”, “doubles”, and “triples”.

After the extraction phase, there will usually be a short lunch break before the incision and implantation phases begin.

Incision Phase

During the pre-implantation phase, a series of small incisions are made by the surgeon to prep your recipient area for receiving grafts.

Incisions are always made by the surgeon at the clinic in Nottingham. The aim here is to create a natural-looking hairline and requires an experienced pair of medically trained hands.

Implantation Phase

From here, your donor hairs will be implanted into your hairline area. Typically a lot of single follicle grafts are implanted at the very front of the hairline in order to give a natural look and not a “pluggy” look. Further back 2 and 3 follicle grafts are also used in order to give density. Once this phase is complete, you will then speak to your surgeon about your aftercare.

Hairline Hair Transplant Cost: What are the Costs at the Nottingham Hair Transplant Clinic?

One of the first things we’re asked about hairline surgeries at the Nottingham hair transplant clinic, most hairline surgeries cost between £4,000 and £5,500. This is, of course, dependent upon the complexity of the case and the size of the hairline area that the patient needs filling.

Across our UK clinics (including the clinic in Nottingham) we do not operate on a “cost per graft” basis. Instead we price our cases on the size of the hairline area that needs filling and use the expertise of our surgeons to guide what is going to provide the best treatment and natural looking result.

We also provide finance facilities to help spread the cost of the procedure. This is discussed during your first free online consultation.

Why Get a Hairline Hair Transplant?

There are several reasons why patients wish to have a hairline hair transplant at the Nottingham hair loss clinic. Here are some of the reasons why our previous patients came to us looking for a hairline hair transplant:

“Since I was 17, I have been suffering with a receding hairline. After speaking with Sara, my consultant, I found out I was suffering with a condition called male pattern baldness. To treat this, I was recommended a hairline hair transplant and a course of finasteride to prevent further hair loss.”

“I have always had a naturally high hairline and it really began to affect my self confidence. I decided to have a hairline hair transplant to fix this. The entire process was so easy. I’m now a few months down the line!”
